Province Investing in Emergency Equipment and Training to Protect Communities

SCUGOG —The government is taking action to protect Ontario by investing $50,000 in the Township of Scugog to help prepare for and respond to emergencies. Funding is being delivered through the Community Emergency Preparedness Grant (CEPG), which strengthens emergency preparedness by helping communities improve their local resilience.

“The ice storm that swept across much of Ontario in March 2025 highlights how emergencies can strike with little warning—and how crucial a strong response is to safeguarding lives, property, and essential services,” said Todd McCarthy, MPP for Durham. “Thanks to this investment from the Government of Ontario, the Township of Scugog will install a modern, environmentally friendly natural gas generator at its municipal emergency operations centre to better manage major power outages. This important upgrade strengthens our ability to act decisively in critical situations and ensures our community is better prepared for future challenges.”

Scugog will use this funding to address electrical energy failure by purchasing and installing a natural gas generator for the township’s primary municipal emergency operations centre (MEOC) as the current diesel generator is past life. This project will allow the Municipal Emergency Control Group to continue direct emergency responses with access to required technologies and communications systems, in the event of any power outages.

“Our government is strengthening the readiness of local communities and organizations to better prepare for any type of emergency,” said Jill Dunlop, Minister of Emergency Preparedness and Response. “Whether it’s modernizing an emergency operations centre or investing in a generator to power a warming centre during a winter storm, these investments help to protect communities across Ontario.”
